Great New Live Wallpapers by BetterYourDroid

BetterYourDroid has done it again with two new awesome live wallpapers! I recently bought the Nexus 1 and Droid2 live wallpapers from him and they are really well done and make my home screen shine! The Nexus 1 wallpaper flashes back and forth with bright electric colors forming a beautiful "X" in the middle of the animation. This is really cool to me because I own a DROIDX and it looks like it was made for the X.

The Droid2 live wallpaper is really simple yet really eye catching and almost hypnotizing as it sits in the middle of your screen and scans back and forth.

As far as boot animations go you can always get them free off the Net but the company BetterYourDroid always delivers in a unique way that always out shines the original animation. I would have to say this is by far, best shown in their Droid X live wallpaper. It takes the original animation, which in my opinion is a little to sluggish and tired, and they set it on fire. That is the first thing people comment on when they see my phone for the first time. They are stunned by the flash of the Droid X eye and I have to say I agree.

All of these Live Wallpapers by BetterYourDroid are priced at only $.99 which is quite a steal for the quality of the wallpaper. Believe me there are other developers charging like $4 for wallpapers that don't even come in second place to how great Better Your Droid has crafted these works of art! So just search "BetterYourDroid" on the Android Marketplace and buy all of their beautiful Live Wallpapers while you can and while they are priced at only one dollar!

Droid 2 Live Wallpaper!

The Droid 2 has arrived and with it comes a grand new Live Wallpaper! But, you don't have to get the new phone to have the new wallpaper! I personally am still in love with the DROIDX's Live Wallpaper, but I guess I'm a little biased because that is the phone I own. But, I bet you'll love this new wallpaper!!

Instructions for installing the wallpaper:
- first go into Settings> Applications> and then check Unknown Sources.
- then download the APK file for the wallpaper here

Droid Games That I Love! And More!

Here is a list of some games that I've been playing and that I recommend....

- Word Up!
This is a wonderful word search game. It gives you a board size of your choosing all the way up to 6x6. You can scan around for the right word count you want and really sharpen up your vocabulary skills. I like to use this in conjunction with the Droid Dictionary, even though the game does give you definitions of all the words you find. I use the Droid Dictionary also with the Droid Dictionary Plug-In so I can save my favorite words. This game has lots of options you can choose to customize your game with. Everything from the board size to the color of the board to the allotted time you want. It is very addictive and will make more articulate while your having fun!

- Trap (free with ads)
Trap is a great game that is never the same each time you play it. It'sa little tough to describe in writing but I can spend hours playing it. The basic premise is you have little red balls bouncing around a large square at different speeds and you draw lines around the balls to cornet them off eventually filling up the whole screen with boxes until you can't trap them any farther.

- Smiley Pops (free with ads)

Smiley Pops is a great match three game. There are many variations of this concept offered out in the Market but this is hands down the best! The cute little animations brought me in to begin with, it just looked so different from any other games. But it was the gameplay that never gets old that kept me addicted. You swipe and match three little faces of which they all have different colors and expressions. Some are happy some are crying and some just look insane! The sound effects are superb and it even has it's own little theme song to keep the action going. It has three different game modes to choose from but I enjoy Free Style the best.

This last selection isn't a game whatsoever but I just had to mention it because it is so awesome! It'sa new Live Wallpaper from the company BetterYourDroid. It'sa unique take on the stock Droid X Live Wallpaper. And I have to say owning a Droid X and comparing this one to the stock X wallpaper this one wins in all categories! It's brighter than the stock, the animation is more alive and it just all around screams Droid X. The price is perfect for such a perfect wallpaper. It will look good on any phone you have it's not just for the X. Get it now it's the best Live Wallpaper on the Market!

Android Program Defective on Droid X

I made the mistake of downloading a program called Blink - Flash LED Your Way and it didn't work and messed with my Droid's LED status light.  I highly recommend staying away from this CRAP program, and add it to your Do-Not-Download list.  In theory it would be a great program, allowing you to change the color of your Droid's status like things like SMS, MMS and Battery.  But it shows up with no color at all and not even the original default green.

I uninstalled the program and rebooted my phone, and luckily the default green light came back.  But, it also went away again, so that really pisses me off that it might have permanently messed up my status light.  I hope that program gets pulled from the Android Market because it's defective and dangerous to have on your phone.

The Droid X-Ceptional!!!!!

I finally got a second Droid X today!  This was after my first one turned out to be broken, by way of the bottom half of the touch screen being dead. It's so nice to finally have the phone I waited for for so long and to begin to explore it's wonders.

Right off the bat the first that impresses me is the huge screen, a side by side comparison of it and the original Droid really shows the difference.  The next thing that I noticed happened while I was playing one of my favorite games, Smiley Pops (which I highly recommend you check out and download). Before when I played the game, the animations would lag and it was quite sluggish.  Now when I play it's as though my Droid X somehow managed to find a line of premium coke and snort it!  It's insanely fast and I can't wait to see how all the internal functions and other programs benefit from this raging speed.

My favorite gesture/slide keyboard "ShapeWriter" was still unavailable to download on the Android Market, but I was lucky enough to find the newest version 3.0.5. Apk file.  If you're interested in trying it or have been looking for it, I'll leave a link at the bottom of this post.  I think the link I left a couple of posts ago was an older version.

It was really funny and I would say lucky, but I don't believe in luck, that I was able to get a replacement today.  Everywhere is sold out and I mean everywhere.  To order one you have to wait over two weeks, which is what I went to the Verizon Wireless store to do today.  But on a lark, while I was waiting in line at the store I decided to call Best Buy.  I had been on a waiting list there and they said they would get some phones in this week and call after all of their pre-orders had been filled.  So I called while I was waiting expecting to be shot down, but they said they had just one left and it was first come first serve.  Luckily that Verizon store was only like two minutes away from Best Buy! So I hopped in my car and recklessly drove to the store (wouldn't it be sad to get in a reck for a phone??? YES!). But I got there and just in time because two people showed up after me that had also called and been told the same thing.

So, like I said, I don't account "luck" for what happened but it sure was lucky.

The Broken Droid X

Well on Tuesday I finally recieved my Motorola Droid X, but to my dismay it was broken. To be precise the bottom half of the touch screen was dead. I took it to the Verizon store and they spent like an hour trying to fix it.

Unfortunately they have no new or refurbished models to replace my broken one with. That really pissed me off. So basically it all came out that I would have to wait over two weeks to recieve a replacement. I have another option for getting a new one which I hope works out though. But its just stupid that the manufacturers don't make enough product to meet the demands of the consumers. This isn't just the fact that more people want the phone that they thought it's a purposeful move on their part to create a higher demand for the product.

This happens all the time with other products especially video game consoles. They develop hype about a product by offering limited amounts. That has always made me so angry that they practice such charlatan moves to gain more want for something. So I'm pretty pissed off at Verizon's customer service as a whole. They've failed to prioritize problems and only thought about the dollar signs just like Apple has done with the failed release if the new iPhone. To big companies it always seems like it's quantity over quality.

The Doom Generation and Gregg Araki

The Doom Generation has been one of my all-time favorite movies since I saw it when it first came out back in the 90's.  It's actually kind of hard to explain why I love it so much.  It's not sheer gratuitous shock value that appealed to me, but it does possess much of this.  I think it was just how absolutely unique and different this movie is.

I can pretty much say that for all Gregg Araki films.  The man is a genius in my book....my book kick's ass! With the exception of maybe "Smiley Face" (which isn't bad..in my book), all of his films have been extremely avant-garde and just special.  They all feature explicit sex and violence, for the most part.  But that is a real horrible way to describe Araki's films, so I don't know why I just wrote that. Probably flashbacks from high school and the last girl I dated dementing my thought process.

But back to the GENIUS, Mr. Araki. He just has this unique look on life and that shows in the ways he shoots his movies.  They have the undeniable high point of good batch of white girl, with the crushing reality of coming to terms with your own mortality.  Everything from the film he uses, to the editing to the soundtracks he chooses has always made his movies stand out from all the normal Hollywood garbage.  And well, I'm not a movie snob, but there is absolutely nothing out there that can touch the magic that Araki produces, save maybe Harmony Korine and Larry Clark, but their humor isn't as warming as Greg Araki's.

I've worked on a few movies in my time, and when I do work that is my official profession, but I still haven't lived my dream and had the chance to work on one of Gregg's films.  Life isn't over, and I never say never..well except, I'll never think its cool nor will I ever pop the collar on my shirts.  That is just motarded.

So to all you Gregg Araki fans out there I ask you to leave a nice message about his works of demented art and if you're not familiar with his work I challenge to test your desensitizing skills and watch one of his movies.

I salute you Gregg...NEVER STOP MAKING MOVIES!

My Favorite Droid Programs from the Android Market

The Android Market for the Droid phones and many other smart phones is growing very quickly and offers some really remarkable programs (or Apps if you prefer).

Instead of just posting and describing the most popular ones, I'd rather just post about what programs I enjoy the most. Maybe you have these and agree, or just maybe you'll find something new to expand your phone functionality and entertainment!

1. ShapeWriter Slide Keyboard (Out of the Market but was Free)

This keyboard for the time is no longer offered on the Android Market (so why are you posting it?!), well its just so awesome I couldn't opt to not post about it. ShapeWriter is a slide keyboard, meaning you trace the letters of a word you want to enter and the predictive text feature picks up the word it thinks you are tracing and posts it. It is about 98% accurate I believe and it is the absolute fastest way to text and any other thing you'd like to write about. I'm so addicted to using a slide keyboard, I get sick when I try to use a standard default keyboard now. Below I will leave a link to the ShapeWriter APK file so you can download it to your phone.

2. Status Notes (Paid and Free)

Status Notes is a beautifully simple yet affective little program. It lets you make notes and it will put them in your Status bar. You can choose different icons to show up in your status bar for your entries. The choices aren't that grand, but it's better than nothing. I find myself using this program all the time, making lists of movies I want to buy or watch, keeping a budget, keeping track of appointments or just simply leaving myself little notes of things to do or remember. There is a free version and pay version. The only difference is the pay version gives you the ability to have multiple Status Notes in your status bar. Try it out, you won't want to be without it once you've used it.

3. Word Up! (Free)

Word Up! is an addictive word find game that is offered for free on the Android Market. You slide your fingers across the letters to make as many words as you can before the time runs out. That simple! But the program has so many great customization options, you can select the board color, minimum letter count, game time, what kind of dictionary and so much more. You can also play this with another person, not online, but it's still fun to play with someone your are hanging out with. Like I said it's quite addictive and I'll spend countless hours playing this word gem.

4. Media Tracker (Paid)

Media tracker is a great tool that is minimal yet very effective at what it does. It needs no extra frills and whistles to do it's job, and it does it very well. It's an application to keep track of media of all types, DVD's/Blu-Rays, HDDVD's, VHS, Xbox and Playstation games and digital media. I currently have over 570 DVD/Blu-Ray titles that I've scanned in, and it's very quick and simple to use. Once again another great program that lets you customize the look and feel of the program. I'm constantly changing the colors on my list to suit my current mood. The developer of this program is a great guy, he constantly updates it with new features and bug fixes. He is also very responsive to user comments and suggestions, and will most likely implement your idea's (assuming you don't ask for a fart sound every time you click a movie...but that would be interesting). Check it out, it's well worth the price!

5. Sharetones (Free)

Sharetones is a great program for downloading and creating your own ringtones. It incorporates the highly skilled and useful program Ringdroid. But it beats out the standard Ringdroid program by having a Fade In/Fade Out feature that the original for some idiotic reason still does not have..NO IDEA..? But yeah, if you would like to make your own ringtones this is the way to go, its easy to use and has a high quality approach to making ringtones. The only downside is you need to be using 3G or Wi-Fi to use since you are signed into their network for sharing purposes when you make ringtones. You can also make alarm and alert sounds in the program and set all the options on your phone. Next to Ringdroid, this is the best choice for creating ringtones.

6. Linda Manager (Free)

Linda Manager is an application and file manager. You can peruse your SD card or internal memory and manage and delete programs through and easy to use interface. Also you get readouts of what all your programs entail. Besides using the default App Manager this is the next best thing.

7. History Eraser (Free)

History Eraser is a program that I couldn't live with out for sure. It helps keep my Droid running smooth and staying clean and not bogged down by useless information and caches. It will erase the history of the following..Phone Call Log, Frequently Called Contacts, Standard Browser Search, Market Search, Google Map, YouTube and Shortcuts. All of those things can add up if you use your phone a lot, so its best to keep it clean and running smoothly. Everyone should have this program.

For now I'm going to stop at 7, yeah a weird place to stop, but well my mind wonders, and its wondering now what a Human Sized Blender would do to a person. Hope you enjoyed those reviews or the programs if you decide to give them a try.

The Motorola Droid "X"

Well, the new Droid came out today, the Droid X! I went to go and purchase one but they were sold out everywhere. But at the Verizon store I went to they would sell you one and it will arrive in two business days. So, I'll either recieve it on Saturday or most likely this coming Monday.

The Droid X has so many great new features! Of course one of the biggest new functions is the ability to shoot High Definition video in a 720p resolution. As long as your light source is good the videos will look amazing! Also the new Droid has three microphones on it which is quite a plus for all the video enthusiasts. It has one mic for narration, one for subject and one on the top of the phone for noise cancellation. I'm quite the avid cinematographer so I'm very excited to get the phone and play around with all the new video functions.

On the older Droids in the Android Market they offer Tethering programs (which can turn your cell phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot), but the new phone comes stock with this feature, which is really cool. This could come in handy if your ISP is down and you want to jump on the Internet. Actually it's probably the best if you don't currently have the internet but you have a computer or some other internet ready device. Now you can sync the device to your Smart Phone and voila you can now surf the mighty web. You can also sync it to your Xbox or PlayStation 3, but if you are attempting to play multiplayer shooters of some sort, I wouldn't recommend it.

Some other cool features about the X are the new 4 by 3 inches screen, it's humongous i saw it in the store. I think it must have the largest screen on a cell phone right now (this is just opinion i haven't researched this yet). Also the Droid X comes with a default of seven home screens. You could already achieve this on other Droid phones using Home Alternatives (Launcher Pro Beta being my favorite hands down), but this way there is no extra programs needed. Also in the bottom dock on the phone you can press buttons that will take you to whatever screen you desire. One of the last things that is really cool about the new version of the Droid is the super fast 1GHZ processor. I played around with the floor model in the store today and I must say that the speed difference between the Droid and the Droid X is quite noticeable.

So for now that raps up my little review of the Motorola Droid X that was released today. I'm sure I'll have more to talk about once I get my Droid in the next couple of days. Thanks for listening to the rants of an Android Maniac!
